You may not instantly think of cosmetic surgery when you think of Winter, but the colder months can be a great time to make a change. The winter season usually means more time off from work and more time spent indoors. Both of these can be used to your advantage when planning your recovery from cosmetic surgery. Did you know? December is the most popular month for cosmetic surgery.

December is the most popular month for cosmetic surgery.

If you've been considering undergoing a surgical procedure, here are some reasons why you may want to schedule your surgery during Winter.

You can avoid excessive sun exposure.

When undergoing facial procedures such as a facelift (rhytidectomy), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), or neck lift it is recommended to avoid the sun for several weeks. Too much sun exposure can lead to scars that are permanently more visible. In the winter you naturally spend more time indoors, making it much easier to recover properly.

It's easier to hide compression garments.

If you are undergoing a Brazillian butt lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, or breast surgery, you may need to wear a compression garment for up to 8 weeks. Winter layers and chunky sweaters make it easier to hide compression garments and swelling. And you do not have to worry about overheating.

Save your vacation days.

You can use the extra time off during the holiday season to rest and recover. For example, surgeons recommend taking off two weeks after a tummy tuck or facelift. By scheduling your surgery during the holidays, you can recover without cutting too much into your vacation days.

You'll be photo-ready by Summer.

The initial healing process from cosmetic surgery takes a few weeks. However, it can take several months for the swelling to resolve and for you to see the final results of your surgery. Having your procedure in the colder months ensures you'll be photo-ready during the warmer season.

You can lean on your friends and family during recovery.

If you have family visiting during the holiday season, they may be able to help you during the first few days of recovery. Recruit friends and family members to help take care of children & pets to ease your recovery after cosmetic surgery.

Of course, this does not mean that other times of the year are not suitable for cosmetic surgery. There are no big differences in terms of risks and complications between the seasons.

When scheduling your surgery consider the following: when is it easiest for you to take time off of work? Is there a special event you want to look great for? December is popular because many people can take off time, but there are other options. For example, if your kids go to summer camp for a month in June, you’ll likely find summer is the perfect window for your surgery and recovery. Alternately, if you are going to a wedding in September, then you'll want to schedule your procedure to allow plenty of time for the swelling to drop. Ultimately, you can get excellent results from your cosmetic surgery year-round. By discussing your wants and needs with your surgeon, you can ensure you schedule your surgery appropriately.
